SciFi US 9PM & Midnight EST/PST - Rose (US Premiere!)
USA - SciFi Channel http://www.scifi.com has a page for a future Doctor Who site at http://www.scifi.com/doctorwho - it currently gives an error message, but should soon be active. A search of SciFi's advance listings also revealed the first broadcast times for the new series. Regular times - Friday 9PM & Midnight EST East Feed / PST West Feed from March 17. Special repeats of Rose - Sunday March 19 at 11PM EST, Friday March 24 at 8PM EST. Apart from the extra showings of Rose, no evidence of special programming to herald Doctor Who's arrival. Doctor Who will air between repeats of Stargate SG-1 (8PM and 11PM) and Stargate Atlantis (10PM and 1AM). Battlestar Galactica will move to 2AM EST/PST. If you have Cable, you are probably on the East Feed if you live in the Eastern and Central Time Zones, and the West Feed in the Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii Time Zones (but check to make sure beforehand). Satellite subscribers are on the East Feed nationwide. SciFi Channel is *not* available in Canada or Mexico (unless you are subscribing to DirecTV or Dish Network through Grey Market means).
East Feed:
EST - 9PM & Midnight
CST - 8PM & 11PM
MST - 7PM & 10PM
PST - 6PM & 9PM
Alaska - 5PM & 8PM
Hawaii - 4PM & 7PM (3PM & 6PM once Daylight Savings Time starts on
the mainland)
West Feed:
MST - 10PM & 1AM
PST - 9PM & Midnight
Alaska - 8PM & 11PM
Hawaii - 7PM & 10PM (6PM & 9PM once Daylight Savings Time starts on
the mainland)
CST - 11PM & 2AM
EST - Midnight & 3AM
UK - Attack of the Graske (interactive episode/game that aired after The Christmas Invasion in the UK via BBCi) is available on the BBC Doctor Who website http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho . To watch/play, you need a) a broadband connection and b) to be in the UK. Ireland, France, Belgium - not close enough. The program notes where your computer is from to determine access. Attack of the Graske is online for people who did not have access to it when it first aired and as one of a number of tests of the technology behind the BBC's upcoming online TV player (letting you watch BBC shows for 7 days after broadcast). By restricting it to the UK they are trying to keep this for people who pay the annual UK TV licence fee. If the BBC finds a way to offer programs in broadband format outside the UK, they will probably charge those of us outside the UK for access. Only Attack of the Graske is being restricted on the website, the rest of the site is open to people worldwide.
UK - UKTV Gold has scheduled a Doctor Who Weekend for 18 and 19 March. All 13 episodes of Series One with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper will air.
» this changed later to 8th/9th April
Israel - Yes Weekend will air 2 Doctor Who episodes a week from this weekend (27 January) onwards. Episodes air back to back. Thanks to Adi and Daniel for this information and broadcast times - Yes Weekend's website is challenging to interpret if you cannot read Hebrew.
Australia - ABC Australia http://www.abc.net.au/tv has told the SFSA Fan Club http://www.sfsa.org.au in the upcoming edition of the SFSA fan newsletter The Wall Of Lies #98 that they HAVE purchased The Christmas Invasion and Series 2 of the new Doctor Who, and that they have the right to repeat Series 1 one time. The repeat for Series 1 has not yet been scheduled. ABC's online schedule reveals that the classic series repeats end for good on 3 February with parts 2 and 3 of Survival, the last story of the original series run. 10(!) magazine shows are starting from 6 February - one for each of the 10 episodes of Doctor Who that had been airing each week. ABC has no plans to repeat the classic episodes at this time after airing nearly all the existing stories in the past 29 months. I would keep an eye on UKTV Australia http://www.uktv.com.au . They aired Doctor Who several times between 1996 and 2003 and might be interested in the classic episodes again if ABC no longer holds the rights.
US - A merger was announced on January 24 between the UPN and WB
broadcast networks, which will combine to become the CW network.
This merger will create a bit of chaos on the broadcast side of US
Television for the rest of this year, and many TV stations will wind
up without network affiliation this Fall, needing to find
replacement programming to fill holes in their schedules. As of this
time, the situation will NOT affect Doctor Who as SciFi is not
broadcast TV and has no corporate ties to any companies involved in
the merger or being hurt by the merger. If Doctor Who were to
perform well enough on SciFi that the decision was made to sell
repeats of these episodes to local TV stations (as has happened with
Stargate Atlantis, The Secret Adventures Of Jules Verne, The
Invisible Man, and other shows on SciFi Friday over the years), then
it might benefit Doctor Who that many cities will have TV stations
trying to fill their schedules without any prime time programming
from a network. What matters for Doctor Who in the US right now is
the audience finding and supporting the show when it premieres on
SciFi on March 17.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
